About us~ The Looking Glass Consignment Sale has been in business for over 15 years and our customers continually comment on the great quality of childrens' clothes and other items we have to sell. Realizing your time is valuable, we are a full service sale - we put your items up for you and your wait time at drop off is minimal due to staggered appointment times. Your items are maintained during the sale and are divided out at pick up. Card and checks are available at pick up as well!! Location will be announced to those on our mailing list and here on the website at least a month before the sale giving our consignors time to prepare. (Look for the yellow banner.)

About the owner~ My name is Elaina Gupton. I shopped the Looking Glass Consignment Sale for a few years and it was my favorite because they were small enough to care about the customers and the consignors items while in their care but large enough that I always walked away with a nice stack of well priced trendy items. Anyone who knows me knows I love to dress my kids in trendy clothing but I do not like to spend money! I discovered consigning as a great way to make a little off outgrown items to purchase new ones and at great prices. When the opportunity came to purchase the sale my husband and I felt it was the best fit for me. I love clothes, shopping, thriftiness, organization, and we needed a way to make a little extra to pay for ballet and soccer! I am a home school mom with no time on my hands but for a few weeks each year my life is consignment. If you try us I feel certain you will love us!

Bows~ We are currently selling bows from Bowtique, exclusively made for Looking Glass. To contact the owners to request a specific and unique bow, call Stephanie at (615)613-3584 or email elaina@lookingglassconsignment.com with any specifics or questions. With exceptional designs and very well pricing they are wonderful bows for any little girl. My personal favorite are the felt flowers!!

Want To Consign?~ Consigning is a 70/30 split where I keep 30% unless you work a shift during the sale in which you get to keep an extra 5%. There is a $7 advertising fee that is taken out of your earnings at the end of the sale before I write your check. However, if you work a shift, that fee is also waived.

Tagging Specifics~ watch this short instructional video all about how to tag!

          Place safety pin here

skip one full inch before writing

Size                                                Seller #

                        Description

                                                           Price
                                                           (ND)

Clothing MUST be on WIRE HANGERS!!  Hanger should be facing left when Looking at the garment - tag should be placed on top right side when of garment.  Safety pin one-inch from top of card - begin writing well below the pin.  Clothing MUST be sorted according to size and gender before drop-off.
Your seller number is your first and last initial and the last four digits of your phone number. You can use a seller number given to you by another sale if you choose. We accept tags from other sales. Index cards must be tagged vertically only on the clothing. Friendship tags are horizontal but are perforated so they are fine. We have a hard time cutting tags that are horizontal if not perforated without cutting your clothing also. Must be tagged in whole dollar increments only. If not in whole dollar increments I will round down for the shopper. Doesn't matter where the info is on the card as long as it is all there. A seller number, the price, the size - no small, med or large please, number sizes only! ND for no discount if you don't wish your items to be discounted on Saturday during the half price day,and a short description of the item in case the tag gets lost from your item.
You will receive 70% of your sales minus a $7.00 participation fee to cover mailing costs and building rental. Checks are ready at pick-up.

Questions?~   People ask all the time certain questions every sale.

Biggest question: What do I price my items? A general rule is to price the item 1/3 of the retail price. In some cases going as high as 1/2 of retail will work but the item must be in like-new condition and be considered a hot item with kids. If you over-price, you will most likely take it back home with you.

Why wire hangers? Space is always an issue every sale. Wire hangers are awful, no one likes them but they are the only hangers that take up the least amount of space to allow as much merchandise as possible. They can be purchased at Walmart or Dollar General but if you start early you should be able to find local dry cleaners that are willing to give you hangers they would otherwise throw out!

Why must the index card be vertical? It is very hard to unpin clothing when there is a crowd so we cut the tags off the items. If they are not vertically tagged we have a difficult time cutting the tags without also cutting your clothing! Not something I feel good about!

Why whole dollar increments? It is far easier to half a $1 item on half price day than an item that is $1.75. There really is not half of 25 cents or 75 cents and by the end of the week, we are exhausted and want to make sure customers and consignors don't lose money because my brain is fried!

Why sort by gender and size before drop off? This really makes your wait time at drop off minimal. If they are sorted, we can check for stains and tears and quickly get them put away and move on to the next consignor waiting.

Why only 5 pairs of shoes? Space, that is really all.

Why only 25 items in junior? Neither of these size ranges sells alot of items thru the week. We are very limited on space so we try to ask our consignors to bring what sells best.

Can I use tags from other sales? Absolutely. I don't care where the info is on the index card, ie dollar amount in the same spot as listed on our site or seller number a different number than our system of initials and phone digits - I don't care where they are on the card as long as the card is vertical on the item and you skip an inch before writing under the safety pin. You can use another sale's seller number. Tag once, bring to our sale and then another! Save time, make more money!

Incentives!~

Work a shift! Would you like to shop early - BEFORE the pre-sale AND receive a 75/25 split? Volunteer to work a 4-hour shift and you will get BOTH of these perks! And as if that wasn't enough, working a shift means the $7 advertising fee is waived for you! (No children allowed when working your shift)  Contact Elaina now elaina@lookingglassconsignment.com!  (Note:  You DO NOT have to be a consignor to work and have the benefit of shopping early.  I have several people who do not contribute, but want to shop early, so they work a shift for me! I will be happy to schedule a worker shift based on availability - hurry, some days and times are spoken for quickly!!) Workers where comfortable shoes and clothing; light snacks and water will be available. Dinner will be served during the Saturday evening shift. For the Saturday shift you will be able to take your items with you and I will mail your check by Tuesday morning.

Worker shifts~will be announced one month before the fall/winter sale in August

Refer a Friend! You now have an opportunity to keep all the profit from your item's sales!!! If you refer a friend, family member or coworker to consign for the very first time, you will be put in a drawing for the chance to keep all your earnings! Exciting news, I know! You must make sure the person you refer writes your name on their contract when they sign it at the time of drop off. I will go through all the contracts and write the names down and draw one to be the winner. That person will get to keep 100% of the profit of their items and I will make nothing! Scary for me, great for you! Can't wait!

New! New! New! This sale we will begin passing out friend passes to all our consignors. Now this pass is for the consignor to give to a friend or family member previous to presale night. Consignors will come in at 6pm to shop and will get to shop undisturbed for a full hour and a half. At 7:30pm we will open the doors to those with a friend pass and will stay open until 9pm.  For those consignors whose friend uses their pass to shop at presale, we will enter their names in a drawing for a canvas tote bag with the name Looking Glass Consignment on the front. As the "friend" comes in we will take the pass and it will have the consignor's name on it for the drawing. Very excited to see if this is a success! I want all our normal consignors to have enough time to shop but I know sometimes you can't make it and want a friend to get to use your pass or want a friend to shop with for a second opinion on items.

Make Money! Will I really make money selling my items? If you price reasonably and you have clean items in good condition you can make great money! Our guidelines listed above are time tested true as we have seen over the years how to help our consignors make the most of their experience. Remember, I and my partners also sell items and have great success! Just a note, don't wait til the last minute to tag your items. Tagging early allows for less stress and more opportunity to pick your best items.
